The New Year - Author unknown Following is a showcase of David Dipnall's previous work which was titled "Dipnall's Year" and is an example of the type of work we expect to publish through Infinartum in the near future. The original foreward is followed by each painting with David's original comments.

When we turn that corner at the end of December, and the New Year lies ahead, I inevitably find myself reflecting on the Year gone by.

From year to year, the content of those reflections changes. Good fortune comes and goes, friends either enter my life or regretfully pass from it. Some ambitions are realised, some still await fruition. Life continues to surprise, excite, and confuse me. Yet, in the midst of this uncharted voyage through the years, one element of my life provides me with an emotional sheet anchor which has stood the test of time.

It is my relationship with the English Countryside throughout the seasons, and its expression through my work as a Landscape Painter. I was fortunate enough to have spent much of my childhood in the countryside, and the emotional responses that were born of a child’s natural wonderment at his surroundings have survived the years that have gone by since then.

As we enter Autumn, it is with a great deal of pleasure that I share with you these memories of another year’s full round in the English Landscape. May the quiet contemplation of these scenes bring to you just some of the contentment I enjoy when painting them.

January
A last golden kiss from the sun as another short winter’s day comes to an early end. Hurry home. But take the memory with you.

February
Out early, hard frost, crunch, crunch, cold feet, hands frozen. Glad I left the heater on in the Studio. Hot breakfast, methinks!

March
Warm sunlight at last! Everywhere, life is bursting through again. Catkins, Primroses, Daffs in the woods. Spring is in the air!

April
April showers, of course. All is fresh as a Daisy! And you can see forever.

May
Blossom and bluebells by the sea! A fresh salty breeze to fill my lungs, and a fine walk to a deserted beach. What a lovely end to Spring!

June
I wish Poppies lasted longer! Usually, by the time I’ve found them, they’re on their way out. Not this time, though.

July
Down by the river again on a sweltering summer’s day. There should be some shade in those woods up ahead. Might sit awhile and watch the Dragonflies.

August
A full August moon silvers the distant sea. The warm rain earlier has left a heady bouquet on the night air.

September
The fields have finished their work. All is turned to Gold as the September sun sets.

October
There’s not much water flowing in the river now, after such a summer. Enough to take some of the autumn leaves on a little voyage, though. Maybe just round the next bend, or on for ever, towards the sea?

November
Gathering mists turn the trees to cardboard cut-outs. There’s still some warmth left in the sleeping undergrowth by the lane, but the puddles will freeze tonight.

December
A winter walk on a clear, crisp day. A good way to overcome the effects of the festive feasting. Only a few more days to January. Thanks for a great year...Again!
