This is one of my first attempts to draw these magnificent apes. To be honest, I didn’t know where to start. I stared for days at a blank sheet and even when I eventually put pencil to paper, I was not sure how I was going to accomplish that scaly, yet hairy, finish. Meditation is actually a drawing of Ro-ro, Monkey World’s first rescue from Taiwan. One of a group of only three at the time, she was, to my mind, by far the best looking and more than worthy of having her image immortalised in print. I particularly like the fact that within this composition, I have drawn her resting on her haunches, typical of apes of her kind.
